Re: Time for a New Smithtown Republican Chairman

Dear Chairman Ellis:

Facts may be as welcome to you as would a fugitive warrant from the State of Louisiana be well received by one of your number.  Facts are difficult things.  God rest him, if Mickey McGuire were still Chairman of the Smithtown Republican Party it would not be the mess it is today.  Ellis, you are no Mickey McGuire.  Why do Republicans hold onto ever shrinking power in Smithtown and the Senate and Assembly seats in Albany?  Because the Democrats are stupid and led by a fool.  An ounce of brains with a true anti-corruption agenda and the Republicans would be out in a heartbeat.

In 2007 you instigated a Primary against Republican incumbent John Kennedy by – believe it or not – running Vincent Trimarco, Jr, Esq. against him.  Trimarco, Jr. pushed Suffolk County’s so-called Sex Predator Law against Kennedy -- who had enough brains and guts to vote against this crap -- perhaps disconcerting a number of predators within the Smithtown Republican Committee’s own ranks.  A book could be written about the well-fed thieves, loafers, misfits, felons, hangers-on, whores and bums that you have surrounded yourself with.

Today I read in Newsday the f following:  POLICE SAID A SMITHTOWN ATTORNEY HAS BEEN ARRESTED.  “Police said a Smithtown attorney has been arrested on a burglary charge in what appeared to be a domestic incident.  Vincent Trimarco Jr., 40 who ran against Suffolk Legislator John M. Kennedy… was arraigned on a second-degree burglary charge Feb. 28 after -- police say -- he crawled through a window of the Smithtown home of his former girlfriend, 24, the mother of his 4-year old daughter.  Trimarco’s attorney, Robert DelCol of Smithtown, said police never should have arrested Trimarco because he leases the home.  According to DelCol, Trimarco heard noises from the home that concerned him. Del Col said Trimarco had given his key to his ex-girlfriend when she lost hers.  When reached by phone, the woman said, “I don’t agree with that version.”  Trimarco was released without bail.  His next court date is April 22.” (Stacey Altherr)  Believe DelCol’s howler and you believe Jack Ruby was innocent. Is Trimarco, Jr. Smithtown’s version of “OJ”?  “Noises from the home that concerned Trimarco?” Was someone trying to make off with property that belonged to this 24-year old woman?  Burglary is the unlawful entry into a dwelling with intent to commit a crime therein, like larceny.  How else would the charge be burglary?  Had this invasion occurred at night, Trimarco would have spent a night in the bing awaiting arraignment on Burglary First Degree.  Maybe he should hire an attorney rather than a comedian.

Ellis, to be generous, this is the latest proof of your ineptitude, save culinary matters. You are insufferable. Why hasn’t Legislator Kennedy taken action within the precincts of the Suffolk Republican Party and its Government to have you fired from the Suffolk County Board of Elections and consigned to your roots which was selling noisemakers, funny hats and other novelty items out of your car trunk and garage?

In 1999 you and other Smithtown Republicans supported Michael Hollander for the Town Council who ran as Michael Fitzpatrick’s running mate – “Mike and Mike.”  Even Suffolk County Clerk Ed Romaine publicly endorsed him.  It was an open secret that Hollander was Suffolk Republican Chairman John Powell’s protégé.  Hollander was later shown to be a lecherous thief – a felon who pled guilty to Grand Larceny.  Inter alia, Hollander billed for having lunch with kosher Legislator Alan Binder at a non-kosher restaurant.  Binder just pled guilty to bribe receiving..  Powell was caught cutting up stolen trucks and after a jury’s verdict went to federal prison.  You supported of Assemblyman Robert Wertz, a boodler and parking ticket fixer.  You did the same with Senator James Lack who chased a woman into her garage and then was made a judge by Governor Pataki.  He’s now up before the State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

In 2003 you caused a fight within an otherwise united Republican Party by pushing Danny Hickey who had just retired from the Suffolk County Department of Social Services.  A quitclaim deed still has not been explained.  In 2005, you again shoved Danny Hickey forward at the last second after allowing this burlesque-theater escapee to screen other Town Council candidates beforehand.  When Donald Cantwell won the Republican Primary you did everything possible to prevent his election.  Worse, you personally were in cahoots with Highway Superintendent Edmund Lynch who sent his highway workers around stealing the signs on Cantwell and Councilwoman Jane Conway while leaving those of Lynch, Vecchio, McCarthy and Puleo unmolested.  As you came to learn, Lynch was looting his “Friends of Ed Lynch” campaign account.  He took in $186,000 and spent $175,000 on himself.  When exposed by me and Newsday and all the local papers you still backed Lynch by repeating one of your more memorably asinine justifications -- “he did a great job removing the snow.”

You had a campaign flyer prepared showing Supervisor Vecchio, Councilmen Thomas McCarthy and Edward Wehrheim, Town Clerk Donna Hill-Hamm and Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick endorsing Lynch’s re-election notwithstanding that he had been conclusively exposed as a thief.  The 2005 Republican Primary was “Find the Felons.”  Except for Lynch, the felons won.   In May 2007 you had your Town Republican Politburo Convention and allowed Lynch to give a speech endorsing the re-designation of Suffolk County Legislator Lynne Nowick.  Wohrheim stayed far upwind of Lynch.  June saw Lynch in handcuffs.  He pled guilty to Grand Larceny.  The 2007 Primary was again “Find the Felons.”  The felons won.  But official corruption in Smithtown Government and at Republican Party Headquarters was on the map at last.  “You can’t get to the issues until you get past the corruption.”

Witness your Committeeman Mitchell Drucker who was found guilty of insider trading by the Securities Exchange Commission. Why was James Teese suddenly removed from the payroll of Suffolk Legislator John Kennedy?  Why did Legislator Kennedy later fire Carl Yellon who you pushed for a position on the Smithtown Planning Board?  What happened to the guy preceding Yellon who was on Legislator Andrew Crecca’s payroll?  What was on the computer hard drive?

Smithtown is a mass of bribery and bribe receiving.  Its Planning and Building Departments and its Planning and Zoning Boards are the epicenters of its corruption, let alone the shabby treatment honest citizens receive because they can’t come up with the necessary juice.  Since you took over the Chairmanship of the Smithtown Republican Party you have elected one Democrat  Patricia Biancaniello and two Conservatives – one, Robert Creighton was Lizzie Grubman’s former gumshoe and DA Thomas Spota’s embarrassment, the other being Vincent Puleo, a former bartender and flack for a Greek guy who the Conservatives finally threw out.  Except for an 80-year old Supervisor Vecchio, what Republican candidate of yours has won an election?  Only Thomas (“Frank Esposito”) McCarthy who may have one foot on a banana peel and the other on the step of a paddy wagon.  Builder-bribers Frank Esposito and Robert Fitzpatrick have already pled guilty to bribing Vecchio’s 18-year Chief Building Inspector Robert Bonerba who is expected to plead guilty on March 26th.

So which felons are you going to run this time?  Instead of felons how about bums?

It’s time for you to leave, Ellis.  You should not be anywhere near elections or voting machines.

                                                                Yours truly,

                                                     Lawrence N. Gray, Esq.
