The Nissequogue River
State Park Foundation announced on Thursday, July 10th that State Assemblyman
Steve Englebright has pledged a $60,000 challenge grant to help develop a
master plan for the park and to help bring public water, electricity and new
bathrooms to the soccer fields. New water and electric lines will also be
extended to York Hall. The foundation and the assemblyman both believe in the
cultural and historical significance of restoring York Hall for use as a
theatrical and community center.
State Assemblyman
Englebright understands the importance of developing a master plan for the park
which was originally designed and used as a state hospital. He believes it is
time we move forward with a plan and vision that will finally allow the people
of our community and state to enjoy the beauty and recreational assets of this
park. The Assemblyman respects the wishes of the residents of our community who
have overwhelmingly supported the establishment of a park on this property.
The State Assemblyman’s $60,000 challenge grant will make up 20%
of the $300,000 needed to fund the master plan and infrastructure improvements.
The foundation will be looking to raise $60,000 on its own and pay for the
remaining cost of the projects with other grants and donations.
The foundation wishes to
thank Assemblyman Englebright for his generosity, vision and hard work on our
behalf. His dedication to this park, our community and the State of New York is
very special and greatly appreciated.
