SMITHTOWN NEWS Letters – August 7, 2008
Response by Lenore Cernitz Letter to be in August 14, 2008 edition of local
newspapers Dear Editor:

My sincere thanks to you for printing the views of Denise Creighton, the
daughter of Councilman Robert Creighton, relative to my
appearances before the Smithtown Council concerning the financial
disclosure statements of its elected officials and the
issue raised by Ms. Creighton about my suggestion
to citizens that they watch www.localviewsonline.com to
see the New York State Executive Director of the Committee on Open
Government Robert Freeman discuss the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) in
an interview. Other than letting people decide for themselves, a few
additional points if you would be so kind. Ms. Creighton, as a
teacher you should respect the First Amendment right to petition one's
government for the redress of grievances. However, there is no such thing
as bad publicity and now people know about Local Views online and on
Cablevision Channel 20 TV. And the best way for me to dignify
nonsense is to respond to it, so no more on the subject of your
letter. But just so you understand that we are a voice for the
community ( thru the efforts of volunteers) as well as a watchful eye ( at
no cost to the public ), Denise Creighton, you are invited to appear
on Local Views anytime you wish to
express your opinions. Call for an appointment or email us at localviews@optonline.net.
We welcome opinions from all.
Lenore Cernitz
