Recycling - Town of Smithtown video

The recycling program in Smithtown has many important aspects for
the Smithtown community. Take the time to see its operation, hear about how it improves the quality of the environment and the benefits to the Town financially
as a result of a program that separates, crushes and packages before finally shipping to buyers at the end stage.
The video, produced under Smithtown's Department of Public Safety Director John Valentine with the Technical services of Andrew Brofman, Nicholas Kefalos, Robert Cleveland and Louis G. Turner; was narrated by Supervisor Patrick Vecchio who walked around and questioned the experts, Environment Protection Director Russell Barnett of the Environment and Waterways Department and
Matthew Gorecki Jr. Sanitation Supervisor.
After watching, if you would like more information, you can call
Smithtown Recycling at 269-6600.

  • "The Hauppauge Spring"(Author - John Potente) from the Long Island Botanical Society quarterly newsletter (Fall 2005)

Interesting article as it reflects on both the flooding issue in Smithtown and the need for land preservation !

The Long Island Sound Study in cooperation with the Hauppauge School District conducted an environmental educational program at Sunken Meadow Park. They participated in a field study doing water analysis, fish staining, leaf rubbings and in general having the experience of interacting with nature and learning how to be land stewards. Local Views was there to watch and learn along side those interested in the beauty of our community.

The possibility of science developing algae into a fuel source able to supply the demands of the entire United States -

Take a look at this video and pay particular attention to the very last statement made by the scientist. We sincerely hope this is not the last we hear of this company.
