LOCAL
VIEWS is a
program produced by Volunteers who are concerned citizens. The essence of their
concerns are the Hallmarks of the Republic of the United States. And the hope
is those ideas will permeate again throughout the community in order that all
are protected by such principles intended by great men when they formed our
government. Such qualities our forefathers laid at our feet were the
Responsibility of Civic Duty, the Notion to Resist Corruption and the idea of
Civic Participation for the Common Wealth. In addition they gave us the First
Amendment offering Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press, so that citizens
would know the business of government. And never were the Press to be a lap dog
for the government but rather a watch dog of the people to expose clandestine
activities, underhanded transactions and mismanagement thru incompetence.
What little we can do to advance these
notions will be both a privilege and a responsibility. With this we direct your
attention to the New York State legislative declaration of the Open Meetings
Law, which states:
"It is essential to
the maintenance of a democratic society that the public business be performed
in an open and public manner and that the citizens of this state be fully aware
of and able to observe the performance of public officials and attend and listen
to the deliberations and decisions that go into the making of public
policy."
